Technical Writer

Wrote user and service manuals for blood analyzing instruments (platelet counters) while machines were under development. Documentation complied with FDA guidelines. Supervised and specified art work supplied by technical artist. Wrote in-package instruction sheets for blood test kits used by doctors.

Designed, researched, and wrote technical booklets and similar publications for Western Electric and other clients of Bell Labs. Worked with staff artists to provide illustrations and approved overall design. Example: wrote and produced procedures manual about telephone line-splicing for Western Electric in collaboration with Western Electric engineers based in Atlanta.

Wrote user documentation for Asynchronous Hubbing Repeater (telecommunications equipment) while Repeater was under development. Worked closely with engineers and technicians building equipment to determine specifications and procedures.

Assisted in writing proposal for Federal Aviation Agency contract to build the National Airspace Data Interchange Network (NADIN).

Wrote user and programmer documentation for custom software developed for small businesses. Work required author to investigate the software's functioning both by examining the software itself (running it and using it; examining the code) and by interacting with the programmers. He then had to describe the software and its use to serve the needs of the actual users of the software. Technical documentation served programmers who might have to modify the software.

Wrote and edited software analysis and design documents for local software-development company (Custom-Tailored Software).

Solely responsible for writing Precis, a monthly publication for electronics engineers published by the Technical Information Distribution Service (TIDS). Publication consisted of condensations of articles appearing in professional publications such as Electronics, Electronic Design, Computer Design, Microwave Journal, Mini-Micro Systems, Laser Focus, etc.

Demonstrated ability to combine lively writing style with technical subject matter. Subjects ranged across linear devices, microprocessors and peripherals, computer languages and telecommunications.

Wrote in-house marketing materials for M&M Mars (candy manufacturer—now Mars, Incorporated) in collaboration with engineering staff.
